Welcome Benvenuti Bienvenidos Willkommen

I am an Associate Professor of Social Change for Sustainability in the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. I am also a Visiting Fellow at the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Reading.

I conduct research on social-ecological change in modern societies. I aim to develop an empirically based theory of societal transformation to sustainability, to contribute to the societal debate on this challenge, and to build a bridge between theory and political action. Using primarily an interdisciplinary and mixed-method approach, my research examines why and how social, cultural, political and economic processes, and their multi-scalar and multi-level interconnections with ecological processes, lead to, or prevent, change toward sustainability in different places.

This website contains information on my research, teaching and academic service, and gives access to my publications.
